The Conscience of a Conservative by Senator Barry Goldwater. A MacFadden Capitol Hill Book

The Conscience of a Conservative by Senator Barry Goldwater. A MacFadden Capitol Hill Book, SP 1. 13th Printing. Paperback, New York, 1963

Barry Goldwater's brief 1960 manifesto, the book that turned a Republican senator from Arizona into the voice of modern American conservatism. Goldwater argues that freedom depends on restraining the accumulation of power in a single authority, and he applies that principle to education, labor unions, taxation, civil rights, agriculture, and care for the aged, sick, and unemployed. First issued in hardcover by Victor Publishing, it was a surprise bestseller and became the intellectual groundwork for his 1964 presidential run.
